On March 26, 2021, Dr. Jinping Li gave an academic report in the lecture hall at School of Construction Machinery. The topic was the reliability-based design optimization for the lattice boom of crawler crane.
Dr. Li was supported by Chinese Scholarship Council, visited the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and Safety, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, from December 25, 2019 to December 25, 2020. He mainly engaged in structural reliability analysis and reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) for construction machinery structures during the visiting study.
In this report, Dr. Li firstly introduced the research purpose and significance of RBDO for the lattice boom of crawler crane. Afterwards, he introduced the parametric modeling of lattice boom, formulation of RBDO, reliability analysis method and the process of RBDO, emphasizing how to design an efficient optimization process. Finally, the RBDO of a 50t crawler crane’s lattice boom was carried out, the optimization results were obtained, and the simulation verification under the verification cases was completed. The report gave the students insight into the RBDO of crawler crane’s lattice boom, helped students to gain a better understanding of important value of RBDO for the advanced design of large and complex construction machinery structures.
