Ⅰ. Introduction
The discipline of mechanical engineering is an important basic subject of various kinds of machinery manufacturing products, equipment and corresponding services for human survival and social and economic and national defense development through the study and implementation of various manufacturing technologies. The discipline in Chang'an University has distinct characteristics, and has been engaged in research on the combination of theory and practice and interdisciplinary crossover. The mechanical, civil material and construction technology are synthetically studied. Using modern scientific theories and methods, such as mechanical science, information science, material science, management science and mathematics, physics and chemistry, not only study the mechanical structure and equipment, manufacturing process and system, but also work performance and quality, construction technology, operation efficiency and energy management of the machine. Research is carried out to improve the dynamic performance, quality and efficiency of construction machinery, and reduce the energy consumption.
Ⅱ. Objective
To cultivate high-level specialized talents for the research of science and engineering in the field of mechanical engineering and related fields that meet the needs of the society in the new period. Master systematic and solid basic theories and specialized knowledge of mechanical engineering and related fields; understand the frontier development trends at home and abroad, have broad knowledge and strong adaptability, and have the ability to engage in scientific research, teaching work or independent technical work, and have a rigorous and realistic science attitude and working method; a spirit of seeking truth and solidarity and cooperation;can undertake research and development topics in mechanical engineering and related fields, and has the ability of scientific and technological management.
Ⅲ.Research Field
No. | Main Research Field |
01 | Mechanical manufacture and automation |
02 | Mechanical-electronic engineering |
03 | Mechanical design and theory |
04 | Construction machinery |
Ⅳ.Culture methods
The training of master's graduate students should take the tutor's responsibility system as the first responsible person, or the guiding group responsibility system based on tutors. The members of the steering group are generally composed of 3-5 teachers (including tutors). Tutors play a leading role in the training of graduate students studying abroad. They have the responsibility of guiding, demonstrating and supervising the academic morality. At the same time, they are responsible for formulating the graduate training plan, organizing the problems, the mid-term assessment, the reply, and the guidance of scientific research and dissertations under the unified arrangement of the college.
During the training, we should adopt a combination of theoretical study and scientific research, especially to cultivate the independent working ability, self-study ability, analysis and solution of practical problems for the graduate students, and encourage them to participate in academic activities, study independently, select their own topics and engage in exploratory research.
V. Program Duration
The master’s program are referred the regulations of related documents of Chang’an university. Generally, this program requires 3 years of full-time study, and cannot exceed 4 years.

VII. Cultivating Process
1. Course of Study
Course of study in the master’s program is an important process in cultivating postgraduates, which should meet relevant requirements for credits.
2. Dissertation Proposal
The dissertation proposal should normally be carried out before the end of third semester. Under the guidance of mentors, this proposal submitted by students includes significances of selected topic, research background, contents of research, expected objective, research methodology and premises of research etc.
Reviewing panels of master’s program shall be established under the agreement among the relevant school, the Branch of Degree Committee and mentors. The panels shall consist of at least three vice-senior professional technicians, one of them be the chairman of reviewing panels. The students are required to make a presentation on their dissertation proposal and then the reviewing panels evaluate the proposals strictly and make decisions. The overseas students in the master’s program who pass the assessment shall be permitted to continue their dissertation writing. If failed, they shall be given yellow card warning and make rectifications within a time limit, and then make presentations again. If failing again, their master’s degree shall be terminated or they shall be cultivated in other reversed programs.
The dissertation proposal of master’s program is designed to be completed before the end of the third semester. Whoever applying for defense in advance shall finish at the end of the second semester. The requirements for dissertation proposal are decided by mentors and the Branch of Degree Committees. The whole process from the proposal to application for defense of dissertation shall be no less than one year.
3. Mid-term Assessment
The interim progress report of the dissertation writing of master’s program should be submitted and reported to the assessment team around six months after the approval of proposal. The overseas students in the master’s program are allowed to make necessary adjustments about certain contents in their proposals. However, when they apply for the oral defense of dissertation of master’s degree, the contents of the dissertation shall be consistent with the confirmed contents in the mid-term assessment.
During the interim progress of the dissertation, compositions of the assessment team, assessment requirements, and processing procedures are the same as the process of dissertation proposal.
4. Dissertation Writing
Dissertation of master’s degree is a systematic and academic research result done by the students independently under the guidance of their mentors. The dissertation shall be academic and be finished by considerable efforts, solve scientific problems in the disciplines concerned by taking advantage of existing theories or methodology, obtaining satisfactory results by conducting necessary theoretical analysis. As for the requirements of dissertation writing, please refer toDegree Committee in Chang’an University.
The dissertation of overseas students cultivated in Chinese should be written in Chinese and a corresponding abstract in English is required while cultivated in English shall be written in English and a corresponding abstract in Chinese is also required.
5. Dissertation Defense
The implementation of dissertation defense should abide by the provisions of Degree Evaluation Committee of Chang’an University.
The dissertation defense of the students cultivated in Chinese shall be done in Chinese while the cultivated in English shall be done in English.
Ⅷ. Requirements of papers published and research achievements
According to Detailed Rules for the Implementation of Graduate Students Studying in China and Handbook for Foreign Students Studying in China by Chang'an University, academic results of the postgraduate foreign students obtaining for a master's degree should be closely related to their dissertation. Chang'an University is the first signing institution for academic papers and the patentee of the invention patent.
